By Fact Harbour News

Former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has died at the age of 71.

His death was confirmed by his family on Monday, October 19, 2026, in a statement signed by Toju Anire Uduaghan on behalf of the family.

According to the statement, the former governor passed away on Monday morning, leaving his family, political associates and supporters mourning his death.

The family described his passing as a painful loss, acknowledging his contributions to public service and his role as a father, brother, uncle and family patriarch.

Uduaghan served as Governor of Delta State from 2007 to 2015 under the Peoples Democratic Party, completing two terms in office.

Before becoming governor, he served as Commissioner for Health in Delta State from 1999 to 2003 and later as Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 under former Governor James Ibori.

A medical doctor by profession, Uduaghan was known for his administration’s Delta Beyond Oil initiative, which sought to diversify the state’s economy and reduce dependence on crude oil revenue.

His administration also pursued infrastructure development, healthcare improvements and youth empowerment programmes across the state.

The announcement comes months after his family and the Delta State Government dismissed earlier rumours of his death in June 2026.

Details surrounding the cause of his death have not been officially disclosed.

Uduaghan was born on October 22, 1954, and died three days before his 72nd birthday.

His passing marks the end of a political career that spanned several years of public service in Delta State.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
