Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Uyo, has etched its name in the annals of Nigeria’s technical education sector following the formal adoption of an anthem composed by its Registrar, Amb. Dr. Daniel Gregory Sunday, as the official anthem of the Conference of Registrars of Polytechnics, Colleges of Technology and Allied Institutions in Nigeria (COREG).

The landmark decision, which has brought honour and pride to Akwa Ibom State, was reached at the 95th Regular Meeting of COREG held in Abuja, where members of the Conference formally approved the composition for use at its official meetings, programmes and activities nationwide.

The achievement has further elevated the profile of Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic on the national stage, demonstrating that excellence, creativity and intellectual contributions can transcend institutional ownership and geographical boundaries.

More significantly, the development makes Dr. Daniel Gregory Sunday, a distinguished son of Akwa Ibom State, the first composer whose anthem has been officially adopted by COREG for use at the meetings and programmes of the professional body, marking what is regarded as a historic contribution to the identity and activities of Nigeria’s polytechnic registrars.

The COREG anthem was reportedly commended by members of the Conference for its rich, inspiring and purposeful content, with its message considered reflective of the ideals, aspirations and responsibilities associated with polytechnic education and administration in Nigeria.

The composition is also said to align with the broader policy direction of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen technical and vocational education through skills acquisition, innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and human capital development.

Its adoption is therefore expected to provide a unifying identity for COREG while reinforcing the Conference’s commitment to professionalism, excellence, effective administration and the continuous advancement of technical education across the country.

For Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, the milestone represents more than the recognition of an individual’s creative accomplishment. It is a powerful affirmation of the institution’s growing influence within Nigeria’s technical education community and its capacity to produce professionals whose intellectual and creative contributions resonate beyond the confines of the institution.

Dr. Sunday’s achievement equally highlights the increasing role of tertiary institution administrators not merely as custodians of academic records and institutional processes, but as thinkers, innovators and contributors to the broader development of education and professional practice.

With the formal approval of the anthem, the composition will henceforth be rendered at official COREG meetings and programmes, giving it a permanent place in the activities of the Conference and further cementing Dr. Sunday’s contribution to the professional community of registrars.

The development has consequently attracted commendations for the Governing Council, Management, staff and students of Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, who have been described as stakeholders in a historic accomplishment that has brought national visibility to the institution.

The milestone is also being celebrated as a source of pride to Akwa Ibom State, as an institution within the state has succeeded in making an enduring intellectual and cultural contribution to a national professional body comprising registrars from polytechnics, colleges of technology and allied institutions across Nigeria.

Beyond the immediate achievement, the development underscores the potential of Nigeria’s polytechnic system to produce not only technically skilled graduates, but also professionals capable of providing leadership, innovation and intellectual contributions to the advancement of the nation’s education sector.

Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has demonstrated that its status as a private institution is no barrier to national relevance, institutional excellence or intellectual impact.

Through innovation, creativity, quality and visionary leadership, the institution has continued to distinguish itself within Nigeria’s technical and professional education landscape.

Its latest achievement reinforces the institution’s philosophy that excellence is defined by quality, innovation and impact, not ownership.

True to its inspiring slogan, “One Polytechnic, Two Qualifications,” Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has positioned itself as a trailblazer in technical and professional education, continually seeking new frontiers of institutional distinction and setting benchmarks for others to emulate.

The adoption of its Registrar’s composition as the official COREG anthem is therefore not merely an honour for Dr. Sunday; it represents a significant institutional milestone and a recognition of the creative capacity resident within the Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic community.

It also provides another compelling evidence of the institution’s growing national recognition and its commitment to contributing meaningfully to the development of Nigeria’s technical education system.

For Dr. Sunday, the honour represents a remarkable intersection of scholarship, administration, creativity and service. For Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, it is another milestone in its journey towards national prominence. And for Akwa Ibom State, it is yet another reason to celebrate the achievements of its sons and daughters who continue to make their mark on the national stage.

As the COREG anthem takes its place at official gatherings of the Conference across Nigeria, the name of Amb. Dr. Daniel Gregory Sunday and Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Uyo, will remain associated with a historic contribution to the identity and institutional culture of Nigeria’s registrars’ body.

The achievement is therefore being celebrated as a landmark testimony to excellence, creativity, visionary leadership and the growing national recognition of Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic.

Congratulatory messages have continued to pour in for Dr. Sunday, the Governing Council, Management, staff and students of the institution, as well as the people and government of Akwa Ibom State, on the feat described as an outstanding contribution to Nigeria’s technical education landscape.

With the anthem now formally adopted by COREG, Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has secured a notable place in the history of the Conference, while Dr. Sunday’s composition has become a lasting institutional contribution to Nigeria’s technical and vocational education story.
