Tinubu Signs Bill Extending 2025 Budget Implementation to December 31, 2026

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, into law, extending the implementation period of the 2025 federal budget from September 30, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

The extension followed the passage of the amendment by both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the extension is intended to provide Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) with additional time to complete ongoing capital projects covered by the budget.

The Presidency said the measure would also allow government agencies to fully utilise funds that had already been appropriated for approved programmes and projects.

The extension is expected to prevent the expiration of the implementation period from disrupting projects and other government programmes that are still ongoing.

The President commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration and passage of the amendment.

Tinubu said the legislative action reflected continued cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in advancing national programmes and ensuring that appropriated funds are deployed for the benefit of Nigerians.

The latest amendment means that the implementation window for the 2025 budget will now remain open until December 31, 2026, giving federal government agencies an additional three months to complete eligible activities and projects.

The development comes as the Federal Government continues to implement previously approved capital and recurrent programmes across various sectors of the economy.
