Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the state to ensure effective policing, public safety and the sustained peace enjoyed by residents.

Governor Eno stated this on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when he received the newly deployed Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, AIG Rashid Afegbua, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Uyo.

The Governor commended security agencies operating in Akwa Ibom for what he described as their commitment, dedication and cooperation in maintaining peace across the state.

According to him, the level of synergy among the various security agencies has contributed significantly to the relative peace and security in Akwa Ibom, enabling residents and businesses to operate in a stable environment.

Governor Eno welcomed AIG Afegbua to Zone 6 and congratulated him on his new assignment, expressing appreciation for his decision to visit the state and formally engage with the state government.

He expressed optimism that the assumption of duty by the new AIG would further complement the existing efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies while strengthening the security architecture across the zone.

The Governor also commended the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Muhammad Azare, for his role in maintaining security in the state and promoting cooperation between the Police, other security agencies and members of the public.

Governor Eno said his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to security agencies to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively.

“Thank you for the work you do and the support we get, and for the proactive response that we receive. We will continue to ask for it, and we will continue to do the best we can to support the Police and other security agencies to discharge their duties,” the Governor said.

He stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the government and security agencies, particularly in responding promptly to security concerns and protecting lives and property.

Earlier, AIG Afegbua thanked Governor Eno for the reception accorded him and commended the Governor for prioritising peace and security as part of his administration’s governance agenda.

The new AIG explained that his visit was primarily aimed at familiarising himself with the leadership and people of Akwa Ibom State and formally registering his presence in the state, which falls under the jurisdiction of Zone 6.

Afegbua assured the Governor of his readiness to work closely with the Akwa Ibom State Government and other stakeholders to strengthen security and maintain peace in the state.

He said the Police under his leadership in the zone would provide the necessary support to ensure that security challenges are addressed through effective coordination and collaboration.

The AIG’s visit comes as part of his engagement with states within Zone 6 following his assumption of the new assignment. Such engagements are expected to strengthen institutional cooperation and improve coordination between the zonal police command and state authorities.

AIG Afegbua was accompanied by the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Azare Baba; DCP Audu Lawan; DCP Joseph Esegine; DCP Barko; ACP Asuquo Ebong; DSP Jefferson Osupe; and ASP James Ogeh.

Members of the Governor’s team who received the delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson; Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Gen. Koko Essien (rtd.); Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, DIG Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi (rtd.); State Accountant-General, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien; Chief Security Officer to the Governor, CSP Besta Sini John; Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ekerete Udoh; and other senior government officials.

The meeting underscored the importance of continued cooperation between the Akwa Ibom State Government and security agencies as the state seeks to maintain a peaceful environment and support economic and social development.

Governor Eno’s administration has continued to emphasise the role of security and institutional cooperation in creating an environment conducive to investment, business activities and the wellbeing of residents.

The new leadership at Zone 6 is expected to build on existing security partnerships while working with state authorities and other stakeholders to address emerging security concerns across the zone.
