Wike Reveals Why He Says Uzodinma Is Fighting Him

Reported By Facthabournews

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained what he believes is behind his ongoing political disagreement with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, amid growing tensions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and wider political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike said the disagreement was connected to his political position and activities, particularly his decision to maintain his support for President Bola Tinubu while also pursuing a political strategy that involves politicians across party lines.

The former Rivers State governor made the comments on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, as political disagreements surrounding his emerging “Rainbow Coalition” continued to generate reactions among APC leaders and governors.

Wike has recently maintained that his support for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the APC as a political organisation. Reports indicate that he has argued that members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remain free to contest elections at other levels, even as he personally supports Tinubu for the presidency.

The position has generated opposition from some APC governors, who have expressed concern about Wike’s cross-party political activities. The disagreements have become particularly prominent following the emergence of his Rainbow Coalition, which Wike has presented as a political platform involving individuals from different parties.

Uzodinma has been among those critical of the arrangement, with reports indicating that he has rejected the idea of the coalition and questioned its political relevance ahead of 2027. Wike, however, has defended his political activities and rejected suggestions that his approach represents an attempt to undermine the APC.

Wike’s latest comments therefore add to an increasingly public exchange between the FCT Minister and the Imo State governor. While Wike has offered his explanation for the disagreement, Uzodinma’s position should be considered separately rather than assuming that the minister’s interpretation represents the governor’s stated motive.

The dispute comes at a time when political alignments are changing rapidly across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections. Several politicians and political groups have been announcing new alliances, positions and support structures, while established parties have also been working to consolidate their political bases.

Wike’s continued role as a member of the PDP while serving in the APC-led Federal Government has also remained a subject of political debate. He was appointed FCT Minister by President Tinubu in 2023 despite his continued membership of the opposition PDP.

The development has produced an unusual political situation in which Wike remains associated with the PDP while openly supporting the incumbent president for another term. His position has attracted both support and criticism from politicians across the political spectrum.

Recent reports show that APC governors have sought to distance themselves from Wike’s Rainbow Coalition, while Wike has maintained that his political strategy is not necessarily in conflict with his support for Tinubu.

The disagreement between Wike and Uzodinma is therefore unfolding within a broader contest over political alliances, party structures and the direction of the 2027 elections. Whether the differences will result in further political realignment remains dependent on developments within the parties and among the individual political actors involved.

For now, Wike has publicly provided his explanation for the disagreement, while Uzodinma and other APC leaders continue to express their own positions on the emerging political coalition.

The exchanges are expected to remain part of Nigeria’s political discourse as parties and politicians continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
