Tinubu Appoints New Special Adviser

Reported By Facthabournews

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prince Adetokunbo Ademola Ade-John as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Transportation and Mobility, as the Federal Government moves to strengthen coordination and policy implementation within Nigeria’s transportation sector.

The appointment was approved on August 27, 2026, according to a report on the development. Ade-John is expected to support the Tinubu administration in coordinating policies and programmes aimed at improving transportation and mobility across the country.

His responsibilities will include working with relevant government institutions and supporting the implementation of policies affecting the transportation sector. He is also expected to facilitate stronger cooperation among government agencies and other institutions involved in transportation and mobility.

The appointment comes at a time when the Federal Government is pursuing reforms across Nigeria’s transportation system, with emphasis on improving connectivity, infrastructure, mobility and coordination among agencies responsible for different aspects of the sector.

Ade-John is not new to government service. Before his latest appointment, he served as a Special Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, giving him experience within the Federal Government’s administrative structure.

His new role is expected to involve engagement with ministries, departments and agencies whose activities affect transportation policy and mobility across Nigeria.

The Presidency’s decision to appoint a dedicated senior aide for transportation and mobility also underscores the importance of the sector to the country’s broader economic development agenda. Efficient transportation infrastructure is critical to the movement of people, agricultural produce, manufactured goods and other commodities across the country.

Poor connectivity and transportation costs have remained major concerns for businesses and households, while congestion and infrastructure limitations continue to affect mobility in major Nigerian cities.

The new appointment is therefore expected to contribute to efforts aimed at improving coordination between the Federal Government’s transportation initiatives and the agencies responsible for implementing them.

Ade-John’s appointment is subject to the terms and conditions contained in the Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2008.

The development is part of a series of appointments and changes made by President Tinubu as his administration continues to restructure government operations and assign officials to specific policy areas.

In July, the President appointed Dr Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart as Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters relating specifically to the House of Representatives. Olanrewaju-Smart replaced Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigned from the position to contest an elective office in his home state.

President Tinubu has also appointed officials to strengthen specialised areas of government policy. In April, he appointed Rilwan Lanre Babalola as Special Adviser on Power and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power Sector Reset and Restoration, giving him a mandate to coordinate efforts aimed at improving performance in the electricity sector.

In May, the President also approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Famadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security as part of efforts to strengthen internal security coordination and intelligence-driven operations.

Ade-John’s transportation assignment is expected to complement these broader efforts by providing additional coordination within a sector that cuts across economic activity, urban development and national infrastructure.

The transportation sector includes road, rail, maritime and aviation activities, making coordination among government institutions particularly important. Effective policy implementation in these areas can influence the cost of doing business, access to markets and the movement of people across different parts of the country.

The Federal Government has continued to emphasise infrastructure development and improved connectivity as important components of its economic reform programme. The success of such initiatives, however, depends not only on policy announcements but also on effective coordination, funding, implementation and monitoring.

Ade-John will therefore assume his new responsibilities at a period when expectations are high for improvements in Nigeria’s transportation system.

His appointment takes effect under the terms approved by the Presidency, and he is expected to work with relevant institutions to support the administration’s transportation and mobility objectives.

The latest appointment adds another official to President Tinubu’s team as the administration continues to make changes aimed at strengthening policy delivery and coordination across different sectors of the Nigerian economy.
