Tansian University Vice-Chancellor Reportedly Dies Shortly After Assuming Office

By Fact Harbour News

The academic community in Anambra State has been thrown into shock following reports of the sudden death of Professor Cater Dike Nnamdi Umeoduagu, the newly installed substantive Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University.

Reports emerging on Sunday, October 4, 2026, indicate that Professor Umeoduagu died shortly after assuming leadership of the private university.

According to reports circulating among individuals familiar with developments at the institution, Umeoduagu was formally installed as the substantive Vice-Chancellor on Friday, October 2. He was subsequently said to have taken ill and reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday.

Some reports have described the period between his assumption of office and his death as less than 48 hours, although the precise timeline has not been independently confirmed by an official statement from the university.

Professor Umeoduagu was not new to the administration of Tansian University. Before his appointment as substantive Vice-Chancellor, he served as the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and had also functioned as Acting Vice-Chancellor.

His elevation followed the conclusion of the tenure of Professor Eugene Okoye Nwadialor, who had previously served as the university’s substantive Vice-Chancellor. Recent reports had also highlighted administrative disagreements surrounding the leadership and governance of the institution.

The reported death of Umeoduagu has consequently generated considerable concern because of the extremely short period between his formal assumption of the substantive position and his reported passing.

However, details surrounding his reported illness and death remain unclear. As of October 4, there had not been a widely published official statement from Tansian University management, its Governing Council or the family confirming the circumstances surrounding his death.

Fact Harbour News has also not found sufficient independent evidence to establish a cause of death. Claims circulating online should therefore be treated cautiously until the university or his family provides an authoritative account.

Tansian University is a private Christian university located in Anambra State, with its principal location associated with Umunya and another campus in Oba. The institution was founded by the late Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. John Bosco Akam.

Professor Umeoduagu’s reported death comes at a sensitive period for the university, following recent disputes and changes involving its leadership and administration. The development is expected to generate further attention from members of the university community, alumni and the wider Nigerian higher-education sector.

The university’s leadership structure will also require clarification following the reported death, particularly regarding who will oversee the institution’s academic and administrative affairs pending any formal appointment.

For now, members of the public are advised to rely on official communication from Tansian University and the deceased academic’s family for confirmation of the report, details of funeral arrangements and any information concerning the circumstances of his death.

Further updates are expected as official information becomes available.
