2027: APC Governors Vow to Deliver Their States for Tinubu — Uzodimma

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, has declared that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are united behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Uzodimma made the statement after a meeting between President Tinubu and APC governors in Abuja on Thursday. He said the governors had agreed to take responsibility for mobilising support for the President across their respective states.
Governors Pledge Support for Tinubu
Speaking on behalf of the APC governors, Uzodimma said the governors were “solidly behind” Tinubu and committed to ensuring his re-election.
He explained that the governors would lead campaign and mobilisation efforts at the state level, while the national campaign structure would coordinate activities across the country.
According to him, the governors understand the political realities in their respective states and would identify the strategies required to deliver successful campaigns.
“The responsibility of delivering the election lies on the shoulders of the governors at the subnational level,” Uzodimma said.
Governance Also Discussed
Uzodimma said the meeting with Tinubu was not solely focused on the 2027 election.
He disclosed that governance issues dominated much of the discussions, particularly measures to reduce the cost of living and improve the welfare of Nigerians.
Areas discussed included reducing transportation costs, food security, agriculture and ensuring that the benefits of the Federal Government’s economic reforms reach ordinary Nigerians.
The governors also reviewed the impact of ongoing reforms and identified areas where improvements were still required.
Governors to Lead State Campaigns
The Imo governor said the 2027 campaign would require close coordination between the national campaign council, state governments and other APC leaders.
He stressed that elections are ultimately decided at the state and local levels, making the role of governors particularly important to the party’s strategy.
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule echoed the position, saying governors would take the lead in campaign activities in their respective states.
“Elections are not in Abuja. They are at the states,” Sule said, according to reports of the meeting.
APC Campaign Structure Already in Place
The governors’ declaration comes shortly after the APC unveiled its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
President Tinubu is chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda are vice chairmen.
Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator, Abdulaziz Yari, was named Director-General, while Uzodimma was appointed Secretary of the campaign council.
The structure also includes senior party leaders, governors, legislators and officials responsible for mobilisation, media, election planning and coordination across the six geopolitical zones.
Tinubu’s Re-election Campaign Gathers Momentum
The APC has increasingly intensified preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with party leaders and governors publicly declaring support for Tinubu.
In May, Uzodimma had also said APC governors were committed to marketing Tinubu’s achievements and working towards his re-election.
The latest declaration further signals the ruling party’s effort to consolidate its structure ahead of the election.
For the APC, the major challenge will be translating the governors’ political support into actual voter mobilisation and electoral victories across the states.
With the governors now expected to lead campaigns at the subnational level, attention will shift to how the party handles grassroots mobilisation, opposition challenges and voters’ concerns over the economy and cost of living.
The 2027 election is expected to be a major test of the APC’s ability to combine its control of federal and state institutions with effective grassroots political organisation.
This report is based on statements attributed to Governor Hope Uzodimma and other APC governors following their meeting with President Tinubu. The political positions expressed are attributed views and do not constitute a prediction of the election outcome.
