Nsit Ibom LG Chairman Commends Gov. Umo Eno for Upgrading Afaha Nsit College of Education to University

UYO – The Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Otobong Aaron, has expressed profound appreciation to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, for approving the upgrade of the College of Education, Afaha Nsit, to the Akwa Ibom State University of Education.
In an appreciation message addressed to the governor, the council chairman described the decision as a landmark achievement that would transform teacher education and expand access to quality higher education in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking on behalf of himself, the people of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area and Akwa Ibom residents, Rt. Hon. Aaron said the approval reflects Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to human capital development under the administration’s ARISE Agenda.
According to him, the transition of the institution from a College of Education to a full-fledged University of Education marks the beginning of a new era for teacher education and demonstrates the government’s resolve to produce globally competitive educators.
The chairman noted that the upgrade would significantly broaden academic opportunities for young people, strengthen educational research, encourage curriculum innovation and promote the professional development of teachers across the state.
He further observed that ongoing infrastructure development at the institution through interventions by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) would complement the upgrade and position the university as a centre of academic excellence.
Rt. Hon. Aaron described the governor’s approval as one of the most impactful educational decisions in the history of Akwa Ibom State, expressing confidence that the new University of Education would compete favourably with other renowned institutions across Nigeria.
He also prayed for divine wisdom, strength and good health for Governor Umo Eno as he continues to provide leadership for the state.
The appreciation message concluded with prayers for the continued progress of Akwa Ibom State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The elevation of the institution is widely expected to enhance teacher education, increase research opportunities, create employment, attract greater investment in educational infrastructure and contribute to the socio-economic development of Akwa Ibom State.
Education stakeholders have continued to describe the upgrade as a major milestone that will strengthen the state’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading destinations for quality education and human capital development.
