BREAKING: Reps Direct IGP to Produce PFIPC DG Adeyemi Within 48 Hours Over Probe

ABUJA – The House of Representatives Committee investigating the activities of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to ensure the appearance of the organisation’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, before the committee within 48 hours.
The directive was issued on Monday during the committee’s resumed investigative hearing at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja as lawmakers intensified their probe into the operations and legal status of the council.
The investigative panel, chaired by Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, instructed the Nigeria Police Force to produce Adeyemi before the committee by 12 noon on Wednesday to respond to questions regarding the establishment and activities of the organisation.
Representing the Inspector-General of Police at the hearing, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi appeared before the committee and received the lawmakers’ directive to ensure Adeyemi’s presence at the next sitting.
The committee is investigating allegations surrounding the operations of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, including claims that the body has been operating without a clear legal foundation.
Lawmakers are also examining the circumstances under which the organisation allegedly secured office accommodation at Phase III of the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja, despite questions over its legal status.
Another major aspect of the investigation concerns the reported allocation of ₦1.32 billion to the council in the 2026 Appropriation Act. The committee is seeking to establish how the allocation was made and whether due process was followed before public funds were earmarked for the organisation.
Members of the committee expressed concern over allegations that the PFIPC may have presented itself as a government agency without the statutory backing required for the establishment of federal institutions. They stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the management of public resources and government institutions.
The lawmakers maintained that Adeyemi’s appearance before the committee is essential to clarify issues surrounding the council’s formation, funding, operational activities and relationship with government agencies.
The committee further stated that its investigation is aimed at protecting the integrity of public institutions, ensuring compliance with the law and safeguarding taxpayers’ funds. It emphasized that the exercise is part of the House of Representatives’ constitutional oversight responsibilities and is intended to establish the facts surrounding the organisation’s operations.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Adeyemi Adeniyi nor officials of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council had publicly responded to the committee’s directive.
The Inspector-General of Police has also not issued any public statement on the House directive. However, the police representative assured the committee of the Force’s cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
The committee is expected to reconvene on Wednesday, when Adeyemi is expected to appear before lawmakers to provide explanations regarding the allegations and answer questions related to the council’s activities.
