UMUAHIA – The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, for the establishment of the Uche Nnenna Terminal, describing the landmark facility as a transformative investment that is deepening financial inclusion, stimulating economic activities, empowering local entrepreneurs and creating sustainable employment opportunities across the state.

The commendation followed a working visit by the national leadership of GOMEP-NG to the terminal, where members of the delegation conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the facility, interacted with operators and observed the level of commercial activities taking place within the complex.

Speaking shortly after the inspection tour, the National President of GOMEP-NG, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, expressed satisfaction with the standard of infrastructure and the growing impact of the terminal on the socio-economic development of Abia State.

According to him, the Guild was particularly impressed by the large number of young people and women who have secured gainful employment at the facility, noting that the project has become a significant source of livelihood for hundreds of families while supporting the state’s broader economic transformation agenda.

“The Uche Nnenna Terminal is more than a modern financial and commercial facility. It represents a deliberate investment in people and a practical demonstration of Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to inclusive economic development, financial inclusion, youth empowerment, women’s economic participation and sustainable job creation.

“What we have seen here today clearly shows that this project is already making a measurable impact. Hundreds of young people are working, businesses are thriving and economic activities are expanding. These are the kinds of investments that directly improve the welfare of the people,” Otiti stated.

He noted that beyond providing a modern environment for financial and commercial transactions, the terminal has created opportunities for small businesses, service providers and entrepreneurs to expand their operations in a secure and organised environment.

Otiti added that increased access to financial services through such facilities would encourage more residents to participate in the formal economy, thereby promoting financial inclusion, improving access to credit and supporting long-term economic growth.

The Guild also praised Governor Otti for naming the terminal after Uche Nnenna, describing the gesture as a deserving recognition of a woman whose resilience, dedication and sacrifices contributed significantly to the struggle that ushered in a new era of leadership and renewed hope in Abia State.

According to GOMEP-NG, honouring individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to public service and democratic ideals not only preserves their contributions for future generations but also encourages other citizens to embrace integrity, sacrifice and service to society.

The media body observed that governments across the country should cultivate a culture of recognising men and women whose efforts have contributed to the advancement of democracy, good governance and community development.

While commending the Abia State Government for prioritising projects with direct economic benefits, the Guild urged federal and state governments to invest more in people-centred infrastructure capable of generating employment, expanding financial inclusion and strengthening local economies.

Otiti stressed that investments in modern commercial hubs, transport infrastructure, technology and financial services have become essential tools for reducing unemployment and promoting inclusive economic growth in today’s rapidly evolving economy.

He further noted that such projects would help create an enabling environment for businesses to flourish, attract private investment and improve internally generated revenue for governments while enhancing the quality of life of citizens.

GOMEP-NG reaffirmed its commitment to promoting developmental journalism and highlighting public policies and projects that positively impact communities across Nigeria.

The Guild expressed confidence that the Uche Nnenna Terminal would continue to serve as a model of visionary leadership, innovation and purposeful governance, adding that its long-term socio-economic benefits would further strengthen Abia State’s economy while empowering thousands of youths, women and small business owners for many years to come.
