2027: Fubara Declares Support for Tinubu, Backs Rainbow Coalition Governorship Candidate

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has publicly declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition, a multi-party political movement reportedly championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the declaration on Wednesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the rebuilding and equipping of the Riven Medical Facility, a public-private partnership pharmaceutical manufacturing project in Rivers State.
Addressing supporters and stakeholders at the event, Fubara urged his political followers to align with the Rainbow Coalition and support all candidates presented by the political movement during the 2027 elections.
According to the governor, President Tinubu remains his preferred presidential candidate, while Kingsley China is his choice for the governorship of Rivers State under the coalition’s platform.
“I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our President, and he is the one we are supporting. The governorship candidate is the candidate I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support every candidate under the Rainbow Coalition,” Fubara said.
The governor explained that his political decision was informed by the need to sustain peace and political stability in Rivers State after a prolonged period of tension and uncertainty.
He stressed that the state had experienced enough political conflicts and that the focus should now shift to governance, development and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
Rejecting suggestions from some political associates that he should delay joining the coalition, Fubara insisted that his decision had already been made and that there was no reason to postpone it.
“I am already in the family. I have returned to our family. Give your total support to the coalition. The time of war is over; it is now time for peace, and that peace will take us to another level,” he stated.
The governor further warned against actions capable of reigniting political divisions in the state, saying he would not be part of any agenda aimed at creating disunity among Rivers people.
According to him, all parties must now work together to consolidate the peace that has gradually returned to the state and create an enabling environment for economic growth, investment and infrastructure development.
“I am not party to anything that will bring any form of disunity in this state. We have done what we need to do, and now we are moving forward,” he added.
Fubara’s endorsement is expected to generate fresh political discussions in Rivers State, particularly given the history of political disagreements that previously defined the relationship between the governor and key political stakeholders within the state.
Political analysts believe the governor’s declaration signals a major realignment ahead of the 2027 elections and could reshape the political landscape in Rivers State if sustained. His public endorsement of President Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition may also influence the calculations of political parties and aspirants preparing for the next electoral cycle.
