APC Says Opposition Parties Not Ready to Govern Ahead of 2027 Elections
By Fact Harbour News

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has said opposition political parties are not adequately prepared to govern Nigeria or its subnational entities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s position was conveyed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, following the conclusion of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) initial deadline for the upload of credentials of presidential and National Assembly candidates.
According to Morka, the inability of several opposition parties to meet INEC’s original deadline of July 11, 2026, reflects what he described as administrative and organisational weaknesses within the affected political parties.
He noted that while some opposition parties sought additional time to complete the submission process, the APC successfully uploaded the credentials of all its 471 presidential and National Assembly candidates before the deadline expired at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The APC spokesman said the development demonstrates the ruling party’s organisational capacity and readiness for the 2027 electoral process. He argued that political parties seeking to govern the country should first demonstrate competence in meeting electoral administrative requirements.
Following requests from some political parties, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) subsequently granted an administrative extension of the deadline to July 14, 2026, allowing affected parties additional time to complete the upload of their candidates’ credentials.
The extension provides eligible political parties with an opportunity to regularise their submissions in accordance with the Commission’s guidelines ahead of the next stages of the electoral process.
Political analysts say compliance with INEC’s administrative requirements forms an important part of election preparations, although it does not, by itself, determine the electoral strength or governance capacity of any political party.
The 2027 general elections are expected to be closely contested, with political parties continuing preparations through candidate screening, documentation, campaigns, and other activities prescribed by Nigeria’s electoral laws.
